Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Passports: You MUST have a passport! It can take about three months to get one, so start your application NOW if you don't have one.

Flights to Costa Rica: You will need to first fly into Juan Santa Maria Airport (SJO) in San Jose, Costa Rica. The direct flights book up early. There is a $100 discount if you book round trip on the same US Airways flight I am flying non-stop from Phoenix (PHX) to San Jose (SJO).

  1. US Airways Only direct flight to Costa Rica from Phoenix leaves Saturday and returns Sunday except during peak season
  2. American Airlines
  3. United Airlines
  4. LACSA Airlines: This airline is the airline of Costa Rica with daily departures from San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, Orlando and Dallas.
  5. Continental Airlines: This airline has one flight each day through the Houston airport.
  6. Delta Airlines
  7. TACA
  8. jetBlue
  9. There are other airlines which have minor service out of Canada and the U.S.

There are two international airports in Costa Rica. The other one is located to the North in Liberia. DO NOT BOOK YOUR FLIGHT TO LIBERIA AIRPORT!

Lodging in San Jose: If you are planning to stay near the San Jose airport, a convenient suggestion is the Hampton Inn & Suites. Jungle Surf Cafe - The BEST Ahi tuna on the planet!

Driving: I provide transportation to and from the airport and surf trips only. You will need a car - preferably 4WD - if you are going to check out other parts of the country. Many tours include transportation as well so you don't always have to drive everywhere. It is very difficult and time consuming to get around the country. Plan carefully so you don't use up your vacation driving. Costa Rica surfers recommend using Orbitz. We have found great deals with Europcar.

Food: I will provide drinking water and one meal per day - usually dinner. I usually keep a good supply of eggs around so you can fry some up for a really cheap meal any time you are hungry. The Jungle Haven Surf Camp is equipped with a kitchen and a propane BBQ on the patio. Bottled water is recommended as the house is supplied by untreated river water.

Chores: We all share in keeping the common areas clean at all times.
